Overview

IP65 protected video monitors are designed for monitoring applications where increased protection against dust and water exposure is required. They can be used in outdoor, industrial and other demanding environments where a standard unprotected monitor may not be suitable.

Depending on the model, available features can include high-brightness displays, HDMI connectivity and touchscreen operation. The appropriate monitor depends on the required protection level, ambient light conditions, signal connection and installation environment. For other monitor types, see our Video Monitors.

Applications
  • Outdoor and sheltered field installations
  • Industrial monitoring and control applications
  • Video monitoring in dusty or damp environments
  • Fixed installations requiring increased environmental protection
Key Features
  • IP65 protected models for demanding environments
  • Options with high-brightness displays for outdoor viewing
  • Depending on the model HDMI and other display connections
  • Touchscreen versions available for interactive applications

What does IP65 protection mean for a video monitor?

An IP65 rating means that the rated part of the monitor is protected against dust ingress and against water jets. This can be important in industrial, outdoor and other environments where increased protection against dust or moisture is required. The exact extent of the protection and any installation requirements should always be checked in the individual product specification.

Are IP65 monitors suitable for bright outdoor environments?

IP protection and display brightness are separate characteristics. Selected IP65 monitors also provide high-brightness displays; for example, the Lilliput FA1019HC and FA1019HT are specified with 1500 nit brightness. Whether this is sufficient depends on the ambient light, reflections, viewing position and the conditions at the installation site.

Which video connections are available on IP65 protected monitors?

The available video connections depend on the individual monitor model. HDMI and other display interfaces are available on selected products, but the connection options are not identical across the category. Before purchasing, check that the monitor provides the required physical input and supports the signal format supplied by your video or control system.

Are IP65 protected monitors available with touchscreen operation?

Yes, touchscreen operation is available on selected IP65 models. The Lilliput TK2150/T is specified with capacitive 10-point touch, while the Lilliput FA1019HT combines IP65 protection with touchscreen operation and a high-brightness display. If touch control is required, check the touch technology and the exact protected areas of the individual monitor.

How do I choose the right screen size for an IP65 monitor?

The appropriate screen size depends on viewing distance, available installation space and the amount of information that needs to be visible. A compact display can be suitable for close-range control or monitoring positions, while a larger screen can be preferable where the operator is farther away. Screen size should be considered together with brightness, mounting requirements, signal connections and environmental protection.

When should I choose an IP65 monitor instead of a standard monitor?

An IP65 monitor should be considered when the installation requires a defined level of protection against dust and water exposure. A monitor without a specified IP rating should not be assumed to provide the same environmental protection. The required protection level depends on the actual installation location, exposure conditions and any additional enclosure or weather protection used around the monitor.

Does an IP65 rating mean that the monitor is waterproof?

No. IP65 protection does not mean that a monitor can be submerged in water. The rating describes protection against dust and water jets under defined test conditions, while immersion requires a different protection rating. Always check the manufacturer's specification and installation instructions before using a monitor where it may be exposed to water.
