Questions & Answers▲
How many video inputs does the AVMatrix Shark S8X Plus support?
The switcher provides 8 × 3G-SDI inputs and 2 × HDMI inputs capable of receiving signals up to 4K resolution. An additional AUX input accepts UVC devices, network streams, NDI sources and media playback, giving operators a wide range of source options.
What streaming protocols are supported for live output?
Live streaming is possible via RTMP, RTMPS, SRT and RTSP. These protocols cover the most common streaming platforms and CDN infrastructures used in professional broadcast and online production workflows.
Is NDI support included as standard or available as an option?
NDI support is optional and depends on the version ordered. When the NDI option is activated, the unit can be integrated into IP-based production environments, enabling network-based signal routing alongside the physical SDI and HDMI connections.
What display is built into the unit?
A 17.3-inch Full HD IPS panel is integrated directly into the chassis. It serves as the primary multiview and monitoring display, eliminating the need for a separate external monitor during operation.
What recording options are available?
Recordings can be written directly to USB storage, an SD card or a 2.5-inch SATA drive installed in the unit. This gives operators flexible choices for local storage depending on capacity needs and the production environment.
Which transition types are available during live switching?
The switcher supports T-Bar manual transitions, Auto transitions with adjustable duration and instant Cut transitions. These cover the standard switching requirements of live broadcast, event and studio productions.
Does the unit support keying and overlay functions?
Yes, both Chroma Key and Luma Key are available for virtual background removal and compositing. In addition, DSK and logo overlay functions allow static or animated graphics to be placed over the program output. A built-in media library stores graphics and overlay assets directly on the device.
Can multiple picture-in-picture windows be displayed simultaneously?
PIP and POP modes allow multiple video windows to be arranged on screen at the same time. This is useful for comparison shots, split-screen presentations and complex visual layouts in live productions.
What audio connections and features are provided?
The unit includes XLR inputs and outputs with 48 V phantom power for condenser microphones, as well as a 3.5 mm stereo connector. An integrated audio mixer handles both embedded video audio and external sources, and audio-to-video synchronisation is adjustable to compensate for processing delays.
How many PTZ cameras can be controlled from the switcher?
The integrated PTZ control section supports up to 8 channels simultaneously. Operators can manage presets, focus and colour settings for compatible PTZ cameras directly from the switcher panel without requiring a separate camera controller.
Is there a tally output for integration with existing studio infrastructure?
A Tally GPIO port is included, allowing the unit to send tally signals to compatible cameras, tally lights and other devices. This enables professional integration into existing studio or broadcast production environments.
Can repetitive production tasks be automated?
Macro scripting is supported, allowing operators to record and trigger sequences of actions automatically. This reduces manual workload for recurring workflows such as scheduled transitions, overlay changes or switching sequences.
What program outputs does the unit provide?
The program output section includes 4 × SDI outputs and 2 × HDMI outputs for the main program signal, plus a dedicated HDMI multiview output and a REF output for synchronisation with other devices in the signal chain.
Is the unit suited for mobile or travel-based productions?
The all-in-one design integrates the display, switcher, audio mixer and PTZ control into a single chassis. This compact approach reduces the number of separate devices needed on location, making it a practical choice for mobile productions, conferences and events where setup time and portability matter.
