AVMatrix MMV1630 16-Channel SDI Multiviewer & Matrix Switcher
16×16 SDI routing with multiview monitoring
article number: 12293 | manufacturer number: MMV1630 | EAN/UPC: 6971118000098
The AVMatrix MMV1630 is a professional 16-channel 3G-SDI multiviewer with an integrated 16×16 SDI matrix switcher. The 1RU device combines two important functions in a compact rack unit: clear monitoring of up to 16 SDI signals on a multiview output and flexible routing of SDI signals in matrix mode.
The MMV1630 is particularly suited for broadcast, live production, control rooms, OB vans, studios, event technology, and larger AV installations. Incoming SD, HD, and 3G-SDI signals are detected automatically. Selectable video formats from 720p to 1080p are available for multiview output.
In multiviewer mode, up to 16 SDI sources can be monitored simultaneously. The MMV1630 offers 20 predefined layouts for different production situations, including views with 16, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 6, or 4 picture windows. Individual input signals can be quickly displayed in full screen using the SOLO function when needed.
Additional overlays such as UMD, audio meters, signal status, and timecode support professional signal monitoring. This allows picture signal, audio levels, and signal condition to be checked directly in the multiview.
In addition to multiviewer operation, the AVMatrix MMV1630 can be used as a 16×16 SDI matrix switcher. In this mode, SDI signals can be flexibly routed to the desired outputs. This makes the device suitable not only for signal monitoring, but also for centralised SDI signal distribution in professional video environments.
Each of the 16 SDI inputs has its own SDI loop-out. This allows input signals to be passed on to additional devices in parallel without interrupting the signal chain. Two SDI outputs and one HDMI output are available for multiview output. The multiview can thus be displayed flexibly on SDI or HDMI monitors.
The device can be operated directly via the buttons and rotary encoder on the front panel, or conveniently via PC software. The MMV1630 can be controlled via LAN using software and updated as needed. RS-422 is also available for external control.
For professional use, the MMV1630 supports a redundant power supply via PS-1 / PS-2. The power connectors are designed as locking connectors with screw retention. This increases operational reliability in fixed installations, studios, and mobile production environments.

Questions & Answers▲
What is the difference between multiviewer mode and matrix switcher mode on the MMV1630?
In multiviewer mode, up to 16 SDI sources are displayed simultaneously on a single output using one of 20 predefined layouts. In matrix switcher mode, the device operates as a 16×16 SDI router, allowing any of the 16 inputs to be independently routed to any of the 16 outputs for centralised signal distribution.
How many SDI inputs and outputs does the AVMatrix MMV1630 have?
The MMV1630 features 16 SDI inputs and 16 SDI outputs in matrix mode. Additionally, each input provides a dedicated SDI loop-out, and two SDI outputs plus one HDMI output are available for multiview monitoring.
What SDI signal formats are supported on the inputs?
The MMV1630 automatically detects incoming SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI signals. There is no need to configure the input format manually, as the device recognises the signal standard on arrival.
What output resolutions are available for the multiview display?
The multiview output resolution can be selected from standard HD formats ranging from 720p to 1080p. The exact available frame rates depend on the selected output format setting.
How many multiview layouts does the MMV1630 offer?
The device includes 20 predefined multiview layouts covering a range of picture window configurations, including views with 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 16 windows. This allows the layout to be matched to the specific monitoring requirements of a production.
What is the SOLO function and how is it used?
The SOLO function allows a single input signal to be temporarily displayed in full screen on the multiview output. It is useful for quickly inspecting one particular source in detail without permanently changing the active layout.
What monitoring overlays are available in the multiview?
Each picture window in the multiview can show additional overlays including UMD labels, audio level meters, signal status indicators, and timecode. This allows operators to assess picture, audio, and signal condition at a glance without separate monitoring equipment.
What is the purpose of the SDI loop-out on each input?
Each of the 16 SDI inputs has a dedicated loop-out that passes the incoming signal through to another device in parallel. This allows the MMV1630 to be inserted into an existing signal chain without interrupting the feed to downstream equipment.
Can the multiview output be connected to an HDMI monitor?
Yes. In addition to the two SDI multiview outputs, the MMV1630 provides one HDMI output, making it straightforward to connect the multiview to standard HDMI displays without additional conversion hardware.
Does the MMV1630 support redundant power supply?
Yes, the MMV1630 is equipped with a redundant power supply. If one power source fails, the second takes over automatically, ensuring continuous operation in critical broadcast and live production environments.
What rack space does the MMV1630 require?
The MMV1630 occupies one rack unit, referred to as 1U or 1RU. This compact form factor allows it to be integrated into standard 19-inch rack installations without consuming excessive rack space despite combining multiviewer and matrix switcher functionality.
In which professional environments is the MMV1630 typically used?
The device is suited for broadcast facilities, live production settings, control rooms, OB vans, television studios, event technology deployments, and larger AV installations where simultaneous monitoring and flexible SDI signal routing are required.
