What distinguishes a 4K video monitor from a standard computer monitor?
A video monitor is designed primarily for monitoring video signals rather than general computer use. Depending on the model, professional video monitors can provide SDI or 12G-SDI connections together with functions such as HDR monitoring, 3D LUT support, waveform tools or multiview. The available features vary considerably between models, so the required signal interfaces and monitoring functions should be considered when choosing a display.
Do I need SDI or HDMI connectivity on a 4K video monitor?
The appropriate interface depends on the outputs of your camera, switcher or other video equipment. HDMI is widely used for camera, playback and production equipment, while SDI is common in professional video and broadcast signal chains. Selected monitors also provide 12G-SDI for compatible 4K workflows, so check the available inputs, outputs and supported signal formats of the individual model.
How do I choose the right screen size for a 4K video monitor?

What does 12G-SDI mean and when is it useful for 4K monitoring?
12G-SDI is a high-bandwidth SDI standard that can carry compatible UHD and 4K video signals over a single SDI connection. It is useful when cameras, switchers or other production equipment already provide 12G-SDI outputs and a direct SDI monitoring path is required. Higher-resolution workflows can use different connection arrangements, so the exact supported resolutions, frame rates and link configurations should always be checked for the individual monitor.
Is HDR support important when choosing a 4K video monitor?
HDR monitoring can be useful when working with compatible high dynamic range video signals during production or post-production. HDR support is not standard across every 4K monitor, and the supported HDR formats and display characteristics differ between models. If HDR is part of your workflow, check the individual monitor specification for the supported standards and display capabilities.
What are 3D LUTs and are they available on 4K video monitors?
A 3D LUT allows a defined colour transformation or preview look to be applied to the image shown on the monitor. This can be useful for previewing log footage or evaluating a particular colour treatment during production. 3D LUT support is available on selected models, including the Lilliput Q28-8K-FC, but supported LUT formats and loading options vary by monitor.
Are 4K video monitors available for mobile and field production?
