VariZoom VZROCKPZFI – Zoom, focus & aperture for Panasonic
Professional rear camera operation for video & broadcast
article number: 7337 | manufacturer number: VZROCKPZFI | EAN/UPC: 877038002210
The VariZoom VZROCKPZFI is one professional rear camera operation for simultaneous control of zoom, focus and aperture (iris). It was developed specifically for Panasonic cameras with 2.5 mm zoom and 3.5 mm focus/aperture port and offers maximum control for demanding video and broadcast applications.
As one of the few systems, the VZROCKPZFI enables the simultaneous operation of three central camera functions. Separate controls ensure precise and intuitive control directly on the rig.
- Zoom control via pressure-sensitive broadcast zoom rocker
- Separate rotary controls for focus and aperture (iris)
- Switching between manual and automatic focus or Aperture
- Record start/stop function
The Lateral zoom rocker with a large control path enables particularly fine and uniform zoom movements. Compared to joystick or throttle systems, the broadcast design offers even greater control and repeatability.
- Variable zoom speed
- Wide range of motion for precise control
- Smooth and reproducible Zoom movements
The VZROCKPZFI is perfect for use on tripods, cranes, shoulder rigs and gimbals. The separate controls for focus and aperture mean that two people can operate it - ideal for complex tracking shots and moving scenes.
- Connection cable length: approx. 100 cm
- Zoom connection: 2.5 mm
- Focus/aperture connection: 3.5 mm
Suitable for Panasonic cameras with separate zoom and focus/aperture connections, including:
- Panasonic AG-DVX200

Questions & Answers▲
What camera functions does the VZROCKPZFI control simultaneously?
The VZROCKPZFI allows simultaneous control of zoom, focus and aperture (iris). Each function has its own dedicated control element, enabling precise and independent operation of all three functions at the same time.
Which Panasonic cameras are compatible with the VZROCKPZFI?
The unit is compatible with Panasonic cameras that have a 2.5 mm zoom port and a 3.5 mm focus/aperture port. Confirmed compatible models include the Panasonic AG-DVX200, AG-AC160, AG-AC130A, AG-AF102A, HC-X1, AJ-PX230, AJ-PX270 and DVX100B.
What type of zoom control does the VZROCKPZFI use?
It uses a pressure-sensitive broadcast zoom rocker with a large control path. This design allows particularly fine, smooth and repeatable zoom movements, offering more precision than joystick or throttle-based systems.
Can two operators use the VZROCKPZFI at the same time?
Yes. Because focus and aperture are controlled via separate rotary controls, two operators can work simultaneously — one handling zoom while the other manages focus or aperture. This makes it well suited for complex tracking shots and dynamic scenes.
What rigs and setups is the VZROCKPZFI designed for?
It is designed for use on tripods, cranes, shoulder rigs and gimbals. The maximum clamp diameter is 3.2 cm, which covers the rod sizes commonly used in professional video production setups.
Does the VZROCKPZFI support switching between auto and manual focus?
Yes, the unit includes a switch to toggle between manual and automatic focus. A corresponding switch for manual and automatic aperture control is also provided.
Does the VZROCKPZFI include a record start/stop function?
Yes, a record start/stop function is integrated directly into the controller, allowing the operator to start and stop recording without reaching for the camera body.
How long is the connection cable?
The cable length is approximately 101.6 cm. This provides enough reach for use on shoulder rigs, tripod handles and crane arms without restricting movement.
What are the connector types used for the zoom and focus/aperture connections?
The zoom connection uses a 2.5 mm plug and the focus/aperture connection uses a 3.5 mm plug. Both connections must be present on the camera for full functionality.
What is the weight and size of the VZROCKPZFI?
The unit weighs 450 g and has overall dimensions of 20.3 × 15.2 × 10.2 cm. The working dimensions of the controller body are approximately 7 cm in length and 5.1 cm in width, making it compact enough for handheld and rig-mounted use.
Is the zoom speed adjustable?
Yes, the zoom speed is variable and responds to the pressure applied to the broadcast zoom rocker. This allows the operator to perform both slow, gradual zooms and faster movements depending on the shooting situation.
