The Hoodman HVF-46 is a universal broadcast sun hood and viewfinder loupe for viewfinders and monitors with a diagonal of 4 to 10 inches. It provides reliable shielding from unwanted ambient light and improves visibility of the monitor image in bright lighting conditions.
The softly padded end allows the face to be pressed directly against the viewfinder loupe. This effectively reduces light entering from the sides and rear. This is particularly helpful for outdoor shoots, direct sunlight, backlight situations, or critical image monitoring on set.
The Hoodman HVF-46 is attached via flap-style mounting wings and a securing strap to an existing 3-sided monitor sun hood or directly to the monitor frame. If no suitable monitor sun hood is available, mounting can also be achieved using self-adhesive hook-and-loop strips on the monitor frame, depending on the application. The hook-and-loop strips are also included in the scope of delivery.
For transport, the viewfinder loupe can be folded flat. This makes it well suited for mobile broadcast, video, and production applications.

Questions & Answers▲
What monitor sizes is the Hoodman HVF-46 compatible with?
The HVF-46 is designed for viewfinders and monitors with a screen diagonal of 4 to 10 inches, making it suitable for a wide range of broadcast and production monitors.
How does this sun hood improve monitor visibility on set?
By shielding the monitor from ambient light, the hood significantly reduces glare and unwanted reflections, allowing for more accurate image evaluation in bright outdoor conditions, direct sunlight, or backlit situations.
How is the HVF-46 attached to a monitor?
It attaches via flap-style mounting wings and a securing strap, either onto an existing 3-sided monitor sun hood or directly onto the monitor frame. As an alternative, self-adhesive hook-and-loop strips can also be used depending on the specific application.
Do I need an existing monitor sun hood to mount the HVF-46?
No. While the primary mounting method uses flap-style wings and a strap attached to a 3-sided sun hood, it can also be mounted directly to the monitor frame using self-adhesive hook-and-loop strips if no sun hood is present.
Is the eyecup padded for extended use?
Yes, the end of the viewfinder loupe features soft padding, allowing comfortable direct contact with the face during longer shooting sessions while also blocking light from entering through the sides and rear.
Can the HVF-46 be folded for transport?
Yes, the viewfinder loupe features a fold-flat design, which makes it compact and easy to pack, well suited for mobile broadcast, video, and field production workflows.
Is this product intended for professional broadcast use?
The HVF-46 is positioned as a broadcast sun shade and viewfinder loupe, designed for professional video, broadcast, and on-set production environments where reliable monitor shielding is required.
Does the HVF-46 work in backlit shooting situations?
Yes, the hood is specifically useful in backlit conditions, as it blocks interfering light from reaching the monitor surface and the operator's eyes, enabling more reliable assessment of the recorded image.
What type of monitor sun shade is classified as compatible for the primary mounting method?
The primary mounting method is designed for 3-sided monitor sun hoods. The flap-style mounting wings and securing strap attach to the existing structure of such a hood to hold the viewfinder loupe in position.
Is the HVF-46 suitable for use with on-camera field monitors?
Given its compatibility with monitors from 4 to 10 inches diagonal and its universal mounting system, it is suitable for use with many common on-camera and on-set field monitors used in video and broadcast production.
