The Hoodman HSLR-3 ProCap Kit combines an LCD protective cap, a sun shade, and a 2x magnification loupe in a compact viewfinder system for digital cameras and compatible GoPro models.
The viewfinder attachment shields disruptive ambient light and thereby improves the readability of the camera display in bright daylight and direct sunlight. The integrated 2x magnification makes it easier to assess the image framing, focus, and image details.
The protective cap simultaneously serves as a mechanical display guard. The system is intended in particular for cameras that do not have a suitable clamping device for attaching a conventional LCD protective cap.
The Hoodman ProCap HSLR-3 can be used with compatible DSLR cameras from Canon, Nikon, Kodak, and Fujifilm, as well as compatible GoPro cameras with LCD display. A prerequisite is a suitable, flat mounting surface for the viewfinder window to be adhered to.
At CVC, the system was successfully tested with the GoPro LCD BacPac and the GoPro HERO4 Silver. The viewfinder attachment enables a significantly better assessment of the monitor image, especially during outdoor shoots.

When mounting directly on the LCD display, a viewfinder window is adhered in place. This may alter the external dimensions of the camera, meaning it may no longer fit into the original waterproof GoPro housing.
Alternatively, with a suitable housing design, the viewfinder window can be attached to the outside of the underwater housing. The fit and optical usability must be verified for the respective housing.
Mounting an additional viewfinder window on an underwater housing does not constitute confirmed approval for underwater use.

Can a GoPro with the HSLR-3 attached still be used in an underwater housing?
If the viewfinder window is adhered directly to the camera display, the GoPro may no longer fit in its original underwater housing. Alternatively, if the housing design allows, the viewfinder window can be mounted on the outside of the housing. Fit and suitability for underwater use must be verified separately.
