Questions & Answers

What video input signals does the AVmatrix UC2018 support?

The UC2018 accepts both HDMI 1.4a and SD/HD/3G-SDI signals. On the HDMI side this includes resolutions from 480i up to 1080p60, while the SDI input handles SD formats such as 625i and 525i as well as HD and 3G-SDI up to 1080p60.

Do I need to install drivers before using this capture box?

In most cases no driver installation is required. The device complies with the UVC and UAC standards, so Windows, macOS and Linux automatically recognize it as a video and audio source as soon as it is connected via USB.

Which operating systems are compatible with the UC2018?

The capture box works with Windows, macOS and Linux. Because it relies on the universal UVC and UAC class drivers built into these operating systems, no additional software needs to be installed for basic operation.

What is the maximum capture resolution and frame rate?

The highest supported USB capture resolution is 1920 × 1200 pixels. For the common 1920 × 1080 format the device captures at up to 60 frames per second, making it suitable for smooth full-HD recordings and live streams.

Can I use a professional video camera as a webcam with this device?

Yes. By connecting a camera with an HDMI or SDI output to the capture box and plugging the box into a computer via USB, the camera is recognized as a standard webcam source in video conferencing and streaming applications.

Which streaming software and platforms are supported?

The UC2018 works with popular streaming applications such as OBS Studio and XSplit, and the captured signal can be streamed directly to platforms including Twitch, YouTube Live and Facebook Live, provided the software is configured to use the USB video source.

What audio input options does the device offer?

In addition to the embedded audio carried by the HDMI or SDI signal, the capture box provides a 3.5 mm stereo line-in jack. This allows an external audio source such as a mixer or microphone preamp to be connected and captured alongside the video.

How is the UC2018 connected to the computer?

The device uses a USB Type-C port conforming to the USB 3.1 Gen 1 standard, offering transfer speeds of up to 200 MB/s. AVmatrix recommends using the included USB cable for stable operation. The unit is powered entirely through this USB connection and does not require a separate power supply.

Can multiple UC2018 units be used simultaneously on one computer?

Yes, several devices can be connected to a single computer at the same time. Each unit is recognized as an independent video and audio source, which allows multi-camera setups to be built without requiring additional capture cards or complex driver configurations.

Can HDMI and SDI be used at the same time?

The device provides one HDMI input and one SDI input, but only one video source is passed through to the USB output at a time. It is not designed to capture both signals simultaneously in a single USB stream.

What SDI signal formats are supported on the input side?

The SDI input accepts SD-SDI formats 625i50 and 525i59.94, HD-SDI formats including 720p and 1080i at common frame rates, as well as 3G-SDI for 1080p up to 60 fps. PsF formats such as 1080PsF25 and 1080PsF30 are also supported.

Is the device suitable for video conferencing applications such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams?

Because the UC2018 registers as a standard UVC webcam, it can be selected as the video source in any application that supports USB cameras, including common video conferencing tools. No special plugin or SDK is needed for this use case.
